Bucking the Current Trend: Fundamental Approaches to Teaching Kż6 Mathematics

Teaching K–6 Mathematics
By Douglas K. Brumbaugh, David Rock, Linda S. Brumbaugh, and Michelle Rock. Mahwah, NJ: Erlbaum, 2003. 221 pp. Paper, $34.50.

Most mathematics method textbooks are highly technical and formal, but Teaching K–6 Mathematics is anything but technical and formal. Its down-to-earth informality is easy reading and conveys messages to the reader through discussions about how to become an effective teacher of mathematics at the elementary school level. The authors' writing style engages the reader rather than prescribing what to do in the classroom.
